What is DocMatcher?

DocMatcher.com is a company whose goal is to heal the American healthcare system from the inside out, by renewing the patient-doctor relationship. Most people find the overall healthcare experience pretty miserable. Our mission is to make the healthcare experience better and easier.

It's not that complicated.

We believe:

1. Our time and health are most important - so all of us should be able to find a doctor when we need one.

2. We're all unique- so all of us should be able to find the right doctor specific to each of us.

3. Health is needed for survival - so we should be able to get care for a reasonable price.

4. Doctors are our advocates - so they deserve to spend more time doing what they signed up to do, doctoring.

It's really very simple. Improved doctor-patient communication, self-efficacy and access to care are directly related to improved health outcomes and decreased healthcare costs. We've designed a web-platform that connects people to doctors that match their specific personal needs and then provides the tools need to develop and maintain a long-lasting relationship.

After finding a doctor whose right for you, the rest of the experience is just as straightforward. You communicate over a secure and private web interface via messaging, schedule all your appointments on-line and store and share your medical information through a virtual health file. There are loads of self-care tools on DocMatcher for you and your doctor to use together to implement the best care plan and track your progress. We help doctors organize their info, knowledge and skills for you to use when its most convenient for you.

Why do we do this?

In the winter of 2006, Tara Khan had a frightful experience with her husbands health. Despite her intimate knowledge of the healthcare system and her daily battle as a patient advocate in the Emergency Department, she found it nearly impossible to find a physician suited to treat his needs. She scoured the internet for the best experts in the field, but wound up waiting on hold or visiting doctors that just weren't right. She found the entire experience fragmented and impersonal.

After his health improved, she spoke to friends, family and strangers and found that many of them were not satisfied with their current healthcare. Most people were without a regular health provider and most with a provider were in some way unsatisfied in their relationship with their doctor and were easily willing to switch. The system was obviously broken. Dr. Khan decided that things weren’t going to change on their own. She decided to use her knowledge as a physician and researcher to help shape the healthcare system.

In July 2007, DocMatcher.com was born to help patients and doctors take control of the situation together. DocMatcher.com wants to make being healthy a no-brainer and part of our everyday lives. We think it's health, the way it was meant to be.

Who Are We?

Dr. Tara Khan, CEO

Dr. Khan is a practicing Emergency Physician, Clinical Epidemiologist, and social Entrepreneur in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Khan earned her degree in Osteopathic Medicine from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and her Master's of Science in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research from Weill Cornell Medical College.

Hobbies: Tara enjoy traveling, volunteering through medical missions, swimming, and learning new things. She became an Emergency Doctor to help those who really need it, a researcher to find answers to tough questions and an entrepreneur to bring simple solutions to seemingly complex problems.

Sanjeev Jain, Chief Technology Officer

Sanjeev is an expert in information technology. He was the founder of Amulet Creations Ltd. a well-established internet-technology development firm in the United Kingdom. He is driven by the idea that technological innovation can create better healthcare. He continues to refine DocMatcher's technology and find new ways to best drive our mission- simplified healthcare.

Sean Barry, Director of Community Relations

Sean’s personal experiences with the healthcare system have inspired him to become a patient advocate and are the inspiration for the creation of DocMatcher.com. He is a business journalist and novice entrepreneur with expertise in personal relations, marketing and business development. As United Kingdom native, Sean also brings his knowledge and experience of the U.K. health system experience to the U.S.

Hobbies: Sean is a keen cyclist and rides for a local Brooklyn team, Brooklyn Velo Force. He loves traveling, music and learning.

Mark Lloyd, V.P Business Development

Graeme Rhodes, V.P. Internet Marketing

Mark and Graeme are the brains behind DocMatcher's success and the founders of Sixth Level Marketing, another very successful U.K. company that delivers web-related business solutions. Together, they use their refined spidey senses to help DocMatcher reach you through this very page you are reading now.

Mark has held roles such as business analyst, consultant, knowledge management and program manager. He has spent greater than 12 years involved in Internet related IT projects, including managing multi-million dollar projects and solutions.

Graeme, having previously held senior roles at O2, BT, Securicor, Unipart and Thorn EMI in the UK, is a highly experienced operational marketer who specializes in online media. He has also held wider commercial roles, having built and run retail store chains both in the UK and Germany. In 2005, Graeme co-founded Sixth Level Marketing Ltd – an on-line marketing agency. A graduate of the University of Manchester, he has extensive consumer and corporate marketing experience and brings strong product and channel marketing to the DocMatcher team.

Hobbies: Graeme enjoys cycling and running. Every year he runs to support his local hospice charity.
