The Senate approved legislation on early Thursday to overhaul the healthcare system in the United States. The bill, HR 3590, that intends to expand insurance coverage to more than 30 million Americans was approved by a 60-39 vote. The senate and the house will now work to reconcile their respective bills, 3590 and bill 3962 for signing by President Obama.

Flu Vaccination Rule Suspended -10/23/09
According to an article by the New York Times, Govener David A. Paterson has suspended the mandate that New York City Health Workers must receive both the annual influenza and H1N1 vaccination or face penalties. Mr. Paterson notes his decision was made based upon the need for the limited vaccine in certain health populations such as young children and pregnant women rather than the recent lawsuit and restraining order.
This is a temporary win for the sect of healthcare workers who believe it should be their choice to take a potentially harmful, untested immunization. This is especially important in light of the fact that there has been legal immunity granted to vaccine makers in cases of adverse effects of the H1N1 vaccine and the fact that there is no proof of H1N1 causing more death or disability than the seasonal flu. This decision, however, has not ended the debate and more panic and government intervention can likely be expected before the flu season is through.

The House of Representatives on Saturday night passed H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act by a vote of 220-215. The senate is yet to debate their version of health care legislation. If passed, both the house and senate bills would be reconciled into one that would be voted on again.

CNN Keeping the Lines of Communication Open -09/10/2009
This article from CNN, "Should you facebook your doctor" asks an interesting question. There has always been a tendency for people to keep their personal lives separate from business. Is it appropriate to Facebook your doctor? Is that the best way to relay messages? DocMatcher, provides a secure interface over which you can communicate that can be connected to mobile devices i.e. iphone to get messages in real time when your not on-line. Only time will tell.
